Punta Prima Spain

Guide to the Costa Blanca resort of Punta Prima which lies to the south of Torrevieja.

Punta Prima - Orihuela Costa - Spain

Punta Prima Spain – Not to be confused with the Menorca resort of the same name, the mainland resort of Punta Prima is located at the northern end of the Orihuela Costa, close to the town of Torrevieja. Largely a residential area but with plenty of self-catering properties available for rent, Punta Prima has good sandy beaches, an attractive promenade, and plenty of places to eat, drink and be entertained.

Also the location of one of the few hotels on the Orihuela Costa (the Torrejoven Hotel), it attracts plenty of visitors, and during the property boom of the 1990’s and early 2000’s, attracted lots of International property investors looking to buy holiday homes in the sun. The recession of the late 2000’s left many of these investors in financial difficulty, and at the time of writing (2011), there were plenty of  property bargains to be found in the area.

One of Punta Prima’s biggest tourist draws is the Go-Kart track and surrounding amusement park, to be found along the main road (the N-332), as it passes through the resort heading towards Playa Flamenca. With Go-Kart racing for both children and adults at reasonable rates, this is a great place to spend an evening. Note that at the time of writing there was also a paintballing zone beside the Go-Karts.

Punta Prima was once known for its competing car boot sales but unfortunately these have now been outlawed by the local council, so for some retail therapy you will have to head into nearby Torrevieja (especially the Habaneras centre) or to the Saturday market at Playa Flamenca.

Punta Prima is roughly midway between Murcia, San Javier airport and Alicante airport, the former taking about 30 minutes by car and the latter 40 minutes.
